Blermph

2012 - 2017

From 2012 to early 2017, I led various well-known retail brands through rapid change to keep up with their evolving audience. I took this leap on my own by starting a tiny studio, Blermph, which focused on the intersection of design and technology and specialized in building responsive web design frameworks and custom mobile web apps.

Fortunately, I found myself connected with a technology integrator that implemented Oracle ATG Commerce and had the opportunity to lead design and engineering teams focused on user experience, RWD, and user interface projects. We completed re-platform and redesign projects for some of the biggest retail brands building both consumer-facing products and internally facing applications. Our clients included: Bed Bath & Beyond, T.J. Maxx, Aerosoles, Finish Line, DSW, Serena & Lily.

Much of this work was done independently as a leader of in-house teams working for my partners or clients. On a few projects, I hired my own team. Over time, I found that while I was hired to lead and execute specific projects, my client interactions and engagements would become much more deeply connected to team leadership, organizational culture, and successful strategies for design and engineering excellence.

I missed the days of having my own long-term direct reports, building lasting culture, and having a more significant impact on the broader organization. I also discovered I missed the care and feeding of a brand over years rather than many months. After 5 years leading Blermph, it was time for a change, and I sought a leadership role, happily landing at LendingHome as Head of Design.
